News on A6110 Elland Road to Churwell

Following completion of the consultation period in November 2021, our team have been analysing the data collated from the online consultation and the public events held. Your feedback has helped shape the final proposals ahead of submission of the Outline Business Case report which details outcomes, benefits and potential risks associated with the project.

Sentiment towards the scheme in respect to the proposed cycling and pedestrian improvements, alongside junction improvements at the Elland Road South site were positive. There were concerns were raised about loss of carriageway size and potential traffic implications during the construction period. We would like to stress that carriageway narrowing is not proposed, nor to reduce the number of traffic lanes. We acknowledge that congestion is likely during construction, however this will be mitigated by effective traffic management. Following completion of the works the junction improvements will reduce delays.

We are now progressing with the Outline Business Case which we hope to submit later this year. A further update will be provided following the submittal of the business case and if everything goes well, 2024 would be the estimated construction start date at Elland Road South.
